Ron Fein joins The Young Turks to discuss the impeachment charges against Donald Trump

Washington Post: “The campaign to impeach President Trump has begun”

Matea Gold of the Washington Post covered the launch of the campaign to impeach Donald Trump. Of the campaign, Gold writes:

“The effort to impeach President Donald John Trump is already underway.

At the moment the new commander in chief was sworn in, a campaign to build public support for his impeachment went live at ImpeachDonaldTrumpNow.org, spearheaded by two liberal advocacy groups aiming to lay the groundwork for his eventual ejection from the White House.

The organizers behind the campaign, Free Speech for People and RootsAction, are hinging their case on Trump’s insistence on maintaining ownership of his luxury hotel and golf course business while in office. Ethics experts have warned that his financial holdings could potentially lead to constitutional violations and undermine public faith in his decision-making.”

The Independent: “Donald Trump impeachment effort already underway”

Rachael Revesz of The Independent discussed the campaign to impeach Donald Trump and the business interests which place President Trump in violation of the US Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause.

“Ethics experts, including former ethics counsels to President Barack Obama and President George W Bush, warned that Mr Trump should divest from his commercial holdings and put the assets in a blind trust to ensure he would avoid conflict of interest. Mr Trump is doing neither.

Experts have even warned that Mr Trump would be in breach of the US Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause, which prevents Presidents from accepting gifts from foreign leaders, as soon as he steps into office. One way in which he was accused of violating this clause was through his hotel business, where foreign leaders could stay and pay expensive prices in the hope it would benefit their relationship with Mr Trump.

“If we were wait for all the ill effects that could come from this, too much damage to our democracy would occur,” Ron Fein, legal director at Free Speech for People, told The Washington Post.”

The Hill: “ImpeachDonaldTrumpNow.org launched immediately after Trump sworn in”

Jennifer Calfas of the Hill writes of our case for impeachment based on President Trump’s conflicts of interest resulting from failure to fully divest from his businesses.

”The website includes a case for President Trump’s impeachment, citing conflicts of interest with his sprawling business empire.

”If we were wait for all the ill effects that could come from this, too much damage to our democracy would occur,” Ron Fein, legal director at Free Speech for People, told The Washington Post.”It will undermine faith in basic institutions. If nothing else, it’s important for Americans to trust that the president is doing what he thinks is the right thing … not that it would help jump-start a stalled casino project in another country.”

Time: “There’s Already a Campaign to Impeach President Donald Trump”

Melissa Chan of Time Magazine covers the launch of the campaign and online petition calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump.

“Two civil rights groups trying to boot President Donald Trump from the nation’s highest office have launched an online campaign to get the brand new commander-in-chief impeached.

Their website, www.impeachdonaldtrumpnow.org, went live on Friday just as Trump was officially sworn in. It is run by two groups, Free Speech for People and RootsAction, which believe Trump’s possible conflicts of interest are grounds for his ouster, the Washington Post reports.

“The nation is now witnessing a massive corruption of the presidency, far worse than Watergate,” the campaign’s website says. “From the moment he assumed the office, President Donald Trump has been in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution. The President is not above the law. We will not allow President Trump to profit from the presidency at the expense of our democracy.”
