The Hill: Dem rep calls for Trump’s impeachment

On Monday, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) called for an impeachment investigation of President Trump, following the last week’s firing of FBI Director James Comey.

In a statement released Monday, Green said Trump is not “above the law.”

“I have said on previous occasions, and do now say again, the President should be impeached. I also say that this can happen with a Republican-controlled House and Senate if the public weighs in by demanding that the Republican President be charged by way of impeachment.”

Former Justice of the MA Supreme Judicial Court Calls For Impeachment Investigation of President Trump; Campaign Adds Justice Fernande (Nan) R.V. Duffly to Legal Advisory Board

Justice Fernande (Nan) R.V. Duffly

BOSTON, MA – The Campaign to Impeach Donald Trump Now, a growing national movement for an impeachment investigation of President Trump, announced today that Justice Fernande (Nan) R.V. Duffly, who retired last summer from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, has joined its Legal Advisory Board. The campaign, launched on Inauguration Day and led by two public interest organizations, Free Speech For People and RootsAction.org, is calling on Congress to start this investigation based on the President’s direct and ongoing violations of the two anti-corruption provisions of the US Constitution and based on the President’s apparent interference with a criminal investigation by his improper attempts to influence, and his ultimate firing of, FBI Director James Comey.

In addition to Justice Duffly, the campaign also announced today three other new members of its Legal Advisory Board: Eva Paterson, President of the Equal Justice Society and longtime civil rights attorney and leader; University of Denver Law Professor Nancy Leong; and Vermont Law School Professor Jennifer Taub. On Friday, May 12, 2017, the campaign announced that Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe, one of the nation’s most prominent constitutional law professors, had joined its Legal Advisory Board.

Legal Advisory Board Member Professor Laurence Tribe Outlines Need for Impeachment in The Washington Post

Following the firing of FBI Director James Comey by President Donald Trump last week, Harvard Law Professor and member of the Campaign to Impeach Donald Trump Now’s Legal Advisory Board Laurence Tribe outlined the rationale for impeachment proceedings to begin immediately.

“To wait for the results of the multiple investigations underway is to risk tying our nation’s fate to the whims of an authoritarian leader,” wrote Professor Tribe in The Washington Post.

He went on to conclude, “Whether it is devotion to principle or hunger for political survival that puts the prospect of impeachment and removal on the table, the crucial thing is that the prospect now be taken seriously, that the machinery of removal be reactivated, and that the need to use it become the focus of political discourse going into 2018.”
